Die Idee, in Şanlıurfa ein Museum zu eröffnen, ist erstmals im Jahre 1948 entstanden. Nachdem die vorhandenen Schätze längere Zeit in der Atatürk-Grundschule gelagert wurden, wurde für die Gründung eines Museum erste Initiative gezeigt.
